MATCH NOTES: (09.12-13.14) SEMINOLE CLASSICLIST OF COX SPORTS PROVIDERSBIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Samford University volleyball team treks down to Tallahassee, Florida this weekend to compete in the Seminole Classic hosted by No. 7 Florida State University. The Bulldogs will face arguably its strongest trio opponents of the season in the University of Central Arkansas, Louisiana State University and host institution Florida State.
SU (3-3) hit a rough patch in its second week of competition going 1-2 at the NKU Invitational hosted by Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky on September 5-6. The Norse downed the Bulldogs 3-0 in the opening contest on Friday but Samford managed to bounce back on 10 hours rest to defeat Eastern Michigan University 3-2 but the team ran out of gas against Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville and fell 3-1 in its final match.

Chelsi Carter and
Selina Schirmer. Reesor earned SoCon Player of the week honors after posting her first double-double of the season with 25 kills and 14 digs against EMU. The Caledon, Ontario, Canada native has 99 kills on the season and 1,293 in her career which puts her just 324 kills away from being Samford' all-time career kill leader.
The Bulldogs saw an emergence from redshirt-freshman
T.J. Russell in the middle . Russell missed last season due to injury but has bounced back to record 42 kills on 99 attempts (.283) in the first two weeks of the season. The Montgomery, Alabama native is also a force defensively at the net with 12 total blocks to her credit.
Samford will open the Seminole Classic against Central Arkansas at 10 a.m. CT before facing Florida State in the nightcap at 6 p.m. CT. The Bulldogs will finish up the classic with LSU at noon CT with the match being broadcast on regional Cox Sports TV.
