CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Samford University soccer team will compete in yet another physical Southern Conference contest Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs square off against The Citadel Bulldogs in a tough late-season league showdown to be held at the Washington Light Infantry (WLI) Field.

Samford (10-5-1, 6-0 SoCon) heads into the match with loads of positive momentum after rallying for a 3-1 road triumph at Mercer on Friday. With the victory, the Bulldogs extended their winning streak to nine consecutive matches and extended their undefeated streak to 10 straight outings.

Samford's longest winning streak in school history is 10 games and was achieved twice. The first time the Bulldogs won 10 straight matches was in 2011, while they equaled the feat last season. Also in 2011, Samford set the school record with a 14-match undefeated streak.

This season, since playing to a 1-1 home draw with Georgia on Sept. 8, the Bulldogs have rattled off consecutive victories against Western Kentucky, 1-0, UC Davis, 1-0, Saint Mary's (CA), 1-0, Western Carolina, 1-0, ETSU, 2-0, Chattanooga, 3-1, UNCG, 2-0, VMI, 4-0, and Mercer, 3-1.

During the stretch, Samford is outscoring its opponents by a total of 18-2.

On Friday, the Bulldogs' Abriella Argueta, Grace Packer and Nyalyn Moore all scored second-half goals in a hard-fought road victory at Mercer. Argueta's fifth score of the season evened the match at 1-1 in the 55th minute of play, while Packer's tally proved to be the game-winner in the 78th minute.

Packer's second goal of the season gave Samford its first lead of the match, 2-1, and was assisted by senior forward Jermaine Seoposenwe.

Seoposenwe, the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, as well as the reigning SoCon Player of the Year, assisted on all three of the Bulldogs' goals Friday and upped her team-leading total in the category to seven. Seoposenwe holds Samford's all-time career records in goals (35), assists (37), points (107) and game-winning goals (15).

The Bulldogs have only allowed a total of four goals in their last 12 matches dating back to Aug. 27. During the stretch, Samford has outscored its opponents by a total of 24-4.

Samford, which has won three straight SoCon titles, is in the midst of a 16-match winning streak against conference opponents. The Bulldogs have not been defeated by a SoCon rival since Sept. 25, 2016, when they were topped at Furman, 3-2.

With Friday's victory, Samford head coach Todd Yelton reached the prestigious 200-victory plateau. Yelton owns an impressive 200-88-36 record at Samford and has been named the SoCon Coach of the Year in each of the previous three seasons.

The Citadel (5-9, 0-6 SoCon) heads into Sunday's match with aspirations of snapping seven-game losing streak. Since winning at Jacksonville University on Sept. 15, 1-0, The Citadel has dropped decisions against North Florida, 2-0, Mercer, 3-1, Wofford, 4-0, Furman, 1-0, ETSU, 4-2, Western Carolina, 2-1, and Chattanooga, 3-2 (2OT).

In Friday's heartbreaking home loss to Chattanooga, The Citadel battled back from being down 2-0 in the first 10 minutes of play to force double overtime, but the Mocs were able to make one final play in the 108th minute to escape Charleston with the 3-2 victory.

Chattanooga's Chloe Arnold scored all three goals for the hat trick, while graduate student Cierra Skyers tallied both of The Citadel's scores. Skyers has scored a team-high seven goals this season, including four in The Citadel's last three matches.

Following Sunday's road test at The Citadel, the Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs return home to Birmingham, Alabama, for a highly-anticipated Senior Night showdown against the Wofford Terriers to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Prior to the match, Samford's senior class comprised of Argueta, Anna Maddox, Virginia McNeill, Kaitlyn Orman and Seoposenwe will be honored with a special Senior Night presentation.
