BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team won its ninth-straight game in a 4-3 victory over in-state rival Troy Wednesday night at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

With the win, Samford improves to 31-11 on the season. Troy falls to 21-20 with the loss.

FROM THE BOX SCORE

Branden Fryman and Sonny DiChiara had one hit and one RBI each to lead Samford in the win.
Taylor Garris and Max Pinto also had an RBI each for the Bulldogs.
Gene Hurst (3-2) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up two runs on six hits to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
Jack Rude pitched the final inning to pick up his first save of the season.
For Troy, Chase Smartt went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Taylor Pridgen (0-1) took the loss for the Trojans, tossing 1.1 innings, allowing three runs on one hit.

SCORING SUMMARY

Troy took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second inning.
Samford came back to take a 3-1 lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Garris and Pinto both walked with the bases loaded, and then Ayrton Schafer scored when Fryman reached base on a fielder's choice.
Troy cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the top of the fourth inning.
Samford plated a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to push its lead to 4-2. DiChiara singled to drive in Fryman for a two-run Samford lead.
Troy added one final run in the top of the seventh inning to make the final score 4-3.

LOOKING AHEAD
Samford will travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for a three-game Southern Conference series at Wofford this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 5 p.m. (CT), Saturday at 2 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
