SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford senior guard
Josh Sharkey was named the Southern Conference's Men's Basketball Athlete of the Month when the league released its monthly awards Monday afternoon.
Sharkey led Samford in scoring (21.6 ppg.) and assists (10.2 apg.) in the Bulldogs' five games in the month of December. He scored in double figures in all five games, including three games when he scored at least 20 points.
The Philadelphia native had a month-high total of 27 points against Auburn-Montgomery on Dec. 3, tying his career high. He scored 21 points at Hawaii and 24 points at Georgetown. Sharkey tallied 15 assists at Houston Baptist and 15 again against Alabama.
For the season, Sharkey leads the nation, averaging 9.2 assists and 3.46 steals per game. He also leads the Southern Conference in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game.
Sharkey and the Bulldogs will play host to Wofford Wednesday evening. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. start from the Pete Hanna Center.
