BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team completed its season-opening sweep of UNC Asheville with a 7-4 win Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams played through the first 5.5 innings scoreless.
- Samford plated two runs in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Kaden Dreier.
- Samford added four runs in the seventh inning to push the lead to 6-0. Taylor Garris, Ayrton Schafer, Sonny DiChiara and Dreier drove in a run each in the inning for Samford. Garris' run came on a solo home run.
- UNC Asheville came back with four runs in the top of the eighth inning to cut the lead to 6-4.
- Samford plated one final run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a single by Max Pinto to make the final score 7-4.
ON THE MOUND
- Eric Sottile (1-0) came in to close out the top of the sixth inning to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
- Garrett Brown pitched the final inning to pick up his first save of the season.
- Zach Hester started the game for Samford and held UNCA hitless through his 4.0 innings of work.
- Ryan Douglas (0-1) pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits to take the loss on the mound for UNCA.
