BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team swept a doubleheader from Northern Kentucky, winning the games by scores of 8-7 and 13-7 Saturday at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In game one, Samford plated two runs in the first inning and two more in the third to grab a 4-1 lead. The two runs in the third inning came on a home run by Kaden Dreier.
Samford pushed its lead to 6-1 with two runs in the sixth inning. Tyler McManus homered and Brooks Carlson had an RBI single as the Bulldogs built a five-run lead.
Northern Kentucky plated six runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 7-6 lead.
Samford came back with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to claim the 8-7 win.
In game two, Samford got off to a hot start, plating five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Northern Kentucky scored a run each in the second, third and fourth innings to cut the lead to 5-3.
Samford pushed its lead to 6-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Northern Kentucky then plated two runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth to knot the score at 6-6.
Samford took control of the game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking an 11-6 lead.
The Bulldogs plated two more runs in the seventh inning to make the score 13-6, and NKU added one final run to make the final score 13-7.

ON THE MOUND

In game one, Charles Crosby (3-0) pitched 1.1 hitless innings of relief to earn the win, while Carson Cupo pitched the final inning to pick up his second save of the season.
Tyler Keith (0-3) pitched 2.1 innings in relief in taking the loss for the Norse.
In game two, Billy Creger (1-0) pitched a third of an inning in relief in earning the win.
Kurt Lange (0-2) tossed 1.2 innings in relief, giving up four runs to take the loss for NKU.

NOTABLES

In game one for Samford, Brooks Carlson went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Kaden Dreier and Tyler McManus each homered in the game for Samford.
In the second game, Carlson, McManus and Sonny DiChiara each hit home runs for the Bulldogs.
McManus went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the game two win.
