- Samford plated a run in the second inning when Towns King hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Tyler McManus for a 1-0 Bulldog lead.
- In the third inning, Sonny DiChiara hit a two-run home run to left field to give Samford a 3-0 advantage.
- Michigan State got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Brendan Regan tripled to drive in Jack Frank to cut the Samford lead to 3-1.
- In the fifth inning, Will David scored on a wild pitch for a 4-1 Samford lead.
- In the seventh inning, Brooks Carlson doubled to drive in David for a 5-1 Samford advantage.
