Soccer Plays To 1-1 Draw At Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. 
 – In a battle of two of the top teams in the Southern Conference, the Samford soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Furman Sunday afternoon at the Furman Soccer Stadium.
 
Samford's record moves to 3-1-3 overall and 3-0-2 in SoCon play. Furman is now 5-0-1 overall and in league play. 

KEY PLAYS
  • Both teams came our aggressive, scoring early goals.
  • Furman struck first when Nieva Gaither scored on a shot from the far left corner to give the Paladins a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
  • Just 20 seconds later, Samford's Taylor Yount scored on a penalty kick to knot the score at 1-1.
  • Both teams had multiple chances to score in the second half, as Samford's Morgan McAslan saved three shots in the period, while Furman's Addison Corn saved two shots in the second half.
  • The teams headed into extra time knotted at 1-1.
  • In the first overtime, Furman got three shots off, with one coming on goal, but McAslan was able to make the save to keep the game at 1-1.
  • Yount had a good look at a shot from the left side early in the second overtime, but Corn made the save to continue the game.
  • In the final minute of the second overtime, Lexi Orman produced another shot on goal, but Corn was able to save the shot, ending the match in a 1-1 tie.

  • Samford produced 21 total shots, including eight shots on goal, while Furman had 14 shots, six on goal.
  • Morgan McAslan saved five shots for Samford, while Addison Corn had seven saves for the Paladins.
  • Taylor Yount led all players with seven shots, two coming on goal, producing the one goal.
  • Kyndal Anderson led the Paladins with four shots, with two coming on goal.
  • Samford had five corner kicks in the match, to seven for Furman.
