Soccer Welcomes Mercer For Shauna’s House Night and The Citadel For Sunday Matchup

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's soccer team returns to its home turf for the last time in the regular season as the Bulldogs host Mercer on Friday, Mar. 26 at 6 p.m. for Shauna's House Night and the Citadel on Sunday, Mar. 28 at 1 p.m. to close out the weekend.

Coming off a win and double overtime draw this past weekend, the Samford women's soccer team now holds a current overall record of 3-1-3, 3-0-2 (SoCon). Both Mercer and the Citadel had opportunities to play in the fall putting the Bears at 7-7-1 on their season and the Citadel at 7-7-2.

BULLDOGS TO WATCH
  • Alex Bice is proving to be a key player in Samford's offensive attack with three goals in the past four games. The senior has recorded six points for the Bulldogs on a total of 10 shots, seven being on goal, this season.
  • Taylor Yount leads Samford with fourth goals after she executed a penalty kick against Furman last Sunday to tie the match. Yount has registered 21 shots this season with 12 being on frame.
  • This past weekend, Morgan McAslan played the entire 200 minutes for the Bulldogs in goal where she faced 18 shots while collecting seven saves and allowing just one goal.
 
OPPONENT QUICK LOOKS:
  • Mercer has earned four wins and one loss in conference play with victories over Wofford, The Citadel, UNCG, and VMI. The Bears were handed their one loss by Furman after the Paladins edged Mercer 2-1 in double overtime.
  • Senior Ally Fordham leads the Bears offensively with eight goals and one assists after playing in all 15 games so far this season. Goalkeeper, Jordyn Ebert, has started in 13 matches for the Bears while playing in all fifteen, allowing 17 goals and recording a total of 72 saves.
 
SHAUNA'S NIGHT:
  • The Samford women's soccer team will be hosting its annual Shauna's House Night on Friday, Mar. 26 when the Bulldogs take on Mercer at 6 p.m. at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. Shauna's House is in honor of Head Coach Todd Yelton's late wife, Shauna, and its mission is to help raise funds for orphans in the Ukraine and now Thailand. This year's proceeds will go towards Eden House, an orphanage in Thailand, to help build a sports center.
