TROY, Ala. – The Samford baseball team plated two runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a two-run lead and then held off a Troy rally in the bottom of the inning to earn a 6-5 win over the Trojans Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Samford took an early lead with two runs in the top of the second inning. Kaden Dreier scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by Ayrton Schafer. Ryan Crockett then hit a solo home run to right-center field for a 2-0 Samford lead.
Troy tied the game on a two-run home run by Logan Cerny in the bottom of the second inning, and then the Trojans plated two more runs in the third inning to give Troy a 4-2 lead.
Samford knotted the score at 4-4 when Garrett Howe tripled to drive in Taylor Garris and Will David in the top of the fifth inning.
The Bulldogs took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Will David scored the first run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Howe. Taylor Garris then scored on a wild pitch for a 6-4 Samford lead.
Troy added one run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Samford held on for the 6-5 win.

ON THE MOUND

Carson Cupo (3-0) pitched 1.2 innings in relief, giving up just one hit to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
Chase Isbell pitched the final inning to pick up his third save of the season.
For Troy, Mason Kenney (0-1) tossed 1.0 inning, giving up two runs on one hit to take the loss for the Trojans.

NOTABLES

Garrett Howe drove in three runs with a triple in a 1-for-2 performance at the plate.
Ryan Crockett hit a solo home run, going 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Will David went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Bulldogs.
For Troy, Logan Cerny went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
