BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team ran its current win streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of The Citadel Saturday at Joe Lee Griffin Field. Samford came from behind with four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the first game, 12-11. In the second game, Samford used a 10-run fifth inning to break open a close game on the way to a 14-1 win in seven innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams entered the seventh inning tied at 5-5.
- The Citadel took control for the moment with six runs in the top of the seventh inning. The bulk of the damage in the inning came on a grand slam by Ryan McCarthy as The Citadel took an 11-5 lead.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Samford plated three runs to cut the lead to 11-8. Garrett Howe drove in two runs and Will David drove in one as Samford pulled to within three runs.
- Samford plated four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn the 12-11 walk-off win. Colton Ledbetter doubled to drive in David for the first run of the inning. Ledbetter later scored when Towns King walked with the bases loaded to make the score 11-10.
- Max Pinto then scored on a wild pitch to knot the score at 11-11. Ryan Crockett then singled up the middle to drive in Carson Allison for the 12-11 win.
ON THE MOUND
- Jalon Long (1-1) pitched the final 2.0 innings without allowing a hit, and striking out three batters to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
- Cameron Reeves (2-5) pitched 0.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit to take the loss for the Citadel.
NOTABLES
- Crockett went 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- David went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI for Samford.
- Max Pinto went 3-for-6 with a triple and an RBI.
- For The Citadel, McCarthy went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After The Citadel took an early lead with a run in the top of the second inning, Samford took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. Brooks Carlson scored on a wild pitch to tie the score. Garrett Howe then doubled to drive in David to give Samford the lead. Pinto then scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler McManus for a 3-1 Samford lead.
- Taylor Garris singled to drive in David in the fourth inning to push Samford's lead to 4-1.
- Samford broke the game open with 10 runs in the fifth inning. Crockett hit a three-run homer in the inning. Sonny DiChiara drove in two runs, and Carlson, Garris, Pinto and Howe drove in a run each in the inning as Samford built a 14-1 lead.
- The game was called after The Citadel was retired in the top of the seventh inning.
ON THE MOUND
- Jesse McCord (3-3) tossed 5.0 innings, allowing one run on five hits to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
- Zach Jones (0-3) pitched 3.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits to take the loss for The Citadel.
NOTABLES
- Crockett homered and drove in three runs in a 1-for-4 performance at the plate for Samford.
- Pinto went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Samford.
- DiChiara went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the home Bulldogs.
- For The Citadel, Tilo Skole drove in the team's lone run.
