Baseball Wins Eighth-Straight With 8-4 Win Over The Citadel

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team earned its eighth-straight victory with an 8-4 win over The Citadel to complete the sweep of the weekend Southern Conference series Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Citadel plated a run in the first inning and three more in the second to take a 4-1 lead.
  • Samford took the lead for good with five runs in the fourth inning. Kaden Dreier, Taylor Garris, Sonny DiChiara and Tyler McManus drove in a run each in the inning for Samford. Ryan Crockett also scored on a wild pitch as Samford took a 6-4 lead.
  • Samford added a run in the sixth inning to push the lead to 7-4. McManus singled through the left side of the infield to drive in Max Pinto for a three-run Samford lead.
  • In the seventh inning, Dreier doubled down the left-field line to drive in Blake Bortak to give Samford an 8-4 advantage.
 
ON THE MOUND
  • Hamp Skinner (3-0) pitched 5.2 innings in relief, giving up no runs on five hits to earn the win on the mound for Samford. Skinner struck out seven batters without allowing a walk.
  • Cameron Reeves (2-6) tossed a third of an inning, giving up two runs to take the loss for The Citadel.
 
NOTABLES 
  • McManus went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
  • Dreier was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for Samford.
  • Ryan McCarthy went 4-for-5 with three doubles for The Citadel.
