SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford right fielder
Ryan Crockett homered twice and drove in five runs and the Bulldog baseball team held on for a 9-8 win in the first game of a Southern Conference series at Wofford Friday evening at Russell C. King Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wofford took the lead first with a run in the bottom of the second inning for a 1-0 advantage.
- Samford took control of the game with seven runs in the third inning. Tyler McManus singled to drive in Max Pinto to tie the score. Crockett then hit a grand slam to center field for a 5-1 Samford lead. Towns King later hit a two-run homer to right-center field to make the score 7-1.
- After Wofford plated a run in the bottom of the third inning, Samford's Crockett hit a solo homer to left field in the top of the fourth inning to push Samford's lead to 8-2.
- Wofford came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Samford lead to 8-4.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Wofford plated three runs to cut the lead to 8-7, but a double play with the bases loaded by the Samford defense prevented the Terriers from tying the game.
- Samford added a run in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI double by Sonny DiChiara to make the score 9-7.
- Wofford added one final run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the lead to 9-8.
- Samford closer, Chase Isbell, however, came on to shut down Wofford for the final inning and a third to secure the win for the Bulldogs.
ON THE MOUND
- Carson Cupo (7-0) pitched 2.0 innings, giving up two runs on four hits to earn the win for the Bulldogs.
- Isbell tossed the final 1.1 innings without allowing a hit to pick up his seventh save of the season.
- Josh Vitus (3-3) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits to take the loss for the Terriers.
NOTABLES
- Crockett went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Brooks Carlson went 3-for-4 with a run scored for Samford.
- King also homered, driving in two runs in a 1-for-5 performance at the plate.
- For Wofford, Colin Davis homered, driving in three runs, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
