Carlson Named SoCon Baseball Player Of The Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford junior second baseman Brooks Carlson was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week when the league released its weekly baseball awards Monday afternoon.

Carlson had a huge weekend in Samford's three-game sweep at VMI. He hit .500 (7-of-14) with three doubles, two home runs, and he scored six runs and drove in an impressive 11 runs. He also posted a 1.143 slugging percentage for the week.

In the first game of the series, Carlson went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and a career-high seven RBI. He had two hits in each of the last two games of the series, including a double and an RBI in game two, and a home run and three RBI in the series finale.
Samford earned wins over VMI by scores of 25-1, 11-5 and 18-1 over the weekend. The Bulldogs will host Auburn Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
