BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team split its Southern Conference doubleheader with UNCG Friday at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Bulldogs took the first game, 8-3, before falling in game two by a score of 11-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNCG jumped on top first with two runs in the top of the third inning when Greg Hardison singled to drive in two runs for a 2-0 Spartan lead.
- Samford plated its first run in the bottom of the third when Max Pinto scored when Brooks Carlson reached base on an error to cut the lead to 2-1.
- Samford took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. Will David singled up the middle to drive in Kaden Dreier and Ryan Crockett for a 3-2 Samford lead.
- The Bulldogs added a run in the fifth inning when Sonny DiChiara hit his 11th home run of the season to make the score 4-2.
- In the sixth inning, Samford's David hit a two-run homer to push the Samford lead to 6-2.
- Crockett added a two-run home run in the seventh inning to make the score 8-2.
- UNCG's David Flores hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to make the final score 8-3.
ON THE MOUND
- Samuel Strickland (5-2) earned the win on the mound for Samford, pitching 7.0 innings, giving up just two runs on four hits.
- Austin Koehn (4-3) tossed 5.1 innings, giving up five runs on five hits to take the loss for the Spartans.
NOTABLES
- David led Samford at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
- Crockett went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Bulldogs.
- DiChiara also homered for Samford in a 1-for-3 performance.
- Hardison went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead UNCG at the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNCG plated two runs in the first inning and two more in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
- Samford came back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to knot the score at 4-4. The first three runs of the inning came on a three-run home run by Carlson. DiChiara then hit a solo home run, his 12th of the season, to tie the game.
- UNCG answered with two runs in the sixth inning, two runs in the eighth inning and three more runs in the ninth inning to make the final score 11-4.
ON THE MOUND
- Hamp Skinner (3-2) took the loss on the mound for Samford, pitching 1.0 inning in relief, giving up two runs on two hits.
- Austin Parsley (8-2) pitched 5.0 innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits to earn the win for the Spartans.
NOTABLES
- Carlson homered and drove in three runs in a 1-for-5 performance at the plate for Samford.
- DiChiara also homered for Samford, going 1-for-4 in the game,
- For UNCG, Corey Rosier went 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBI.
