BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team secured a series win with an 8-4 victory over UNC Greensboro in the final game of a three-game Southern Conference series Saturday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UNCG jumped on top first with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Dallas Callahan hit a solo home run, and Hogan Windish drove in three runs with a double for a 4-0 Spartan lead.
Samford came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 4-2. Max Pinto doubled to drive in Will David, and Pinto later scored on a wild pitch.
The Bulldogs closed to within one run at 4-3 with a run in the sixth inning. David singled to drive in Ryan Crockett for Samford's third run of the game.
Samford took the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sonny DiChiara hit a two-run home run to start the rally. Ayrton Schafer later doubled to drive in Crockett and Tyler McManus. The final run scored when David hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Kaden Dreier to push the Samford lead to 8-4.

ON THE MOUND

Carson Cupo (8-0) pitched 3.0 innings in relief, giving up no runs on two hits to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
Kross Robinson (1-1) tossed 0.2 innings in relief, allowing four runs on two runs to take the loss for the Spartans.

NOTABLES

For Samford, David went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
DiChiara homered and drove in two runs in a 1-for-4 performance.
Pinto went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Schafer drove in two runs with a double in a 1-for-4 performance.
For UNCG, Windish drove in three runs, going 1-for-3 on the day.

NEXT UP
Samford will play its final home game of the season when the Bulldogs host cross-town rival UAB Tuesday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
