Men’s Basketball Faces Road Test at DePaul Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Men's Basketball Team will play its second road game of the season on Wednesday when they take on the Blue Demons of DePaul University in Chicago, Ill.

Tip-off from Wintrust Arena is set for 8:00 p.m. Wednesday's contest will air live on FS2 and can be streamed at www.foxsports.com/live.

Wednesday's contest is the first meeting between DePaul and Samford. It will be the Bulldogs' first match-up with a Big East program since their clash with Georgetown (L, 99-71) on Dec. 21 of the 2019-20 season in Washington, D.C.

The Bulldogs' contest at DePaul marks the first of five-straight road games, shifting from a stretch that featured seven out of eight games being played at home to begin the season.

Samford comes into the contest leading the SoCon in points per game at 84.8. The Bulldogs are also allowing the fewest opponents points per game in the conference (65.4) and holding teams to just 39 percent from the field, a mark that also ranks atop the conference.

The Bulldogs lead the league in rebounding average at 42.1 RPG, a mark that ranks 19th in the country. Samford also leads the SoCon in steals per game (9.2), scoring margin (+19.4), and turnover margin (+3).

Ques Glover was named to the Lou Henson Award Watch List on Wednesday, Nov. 23. The award honors the top Division I mid-major men's basketball player in the country. Glover was tabbed a finalist for the award last season.

Three different Bulldogs are currently averaging in double figures, with Glover's 14.9 PPG leading the squad. Jermaine Marshall (12.6 PPG) and Jaden Campbell (11 PPG) both also bring with them a double-digit scoring average into Wednesday's contest.

Glover and Marshall both rank in the top 20 in the conference in scoring average, with Glover ranking 10th and Marshall 18th.

Marshall currently ranks 10th in the conference in rebounding average (6.3 RPG) while Logan Dye ranks 13th (5.6 RPG). Marshall also ranks fifth in free throw percentage (87%) while A.J. Staton-McCray finds himself atop the league in steals per game (2.6).

DePaul (3-3) will look to turn things around after dropping its last three contests. The Blue Demons fell 82-66 at home to Texas A&M their last time out on Nov. 25.

Tony Stubblefield enters his second season at the helm of DePaul. His 15 wins during the 2021-22 campaign were the most by a first-year DePaul head coach since the 2002-03 season. Stubblefield and the Blue Demons opened the season with a 9-1 record that marked the best start for a first-year head coach at DePaul since Rey Meyer went 13-1 to being the 1942-43 campaign.

The Blue Demons are led by a trio of players averaging double-digit points per game. Umoja Gibson leads the team with an average of 16.3 points per game while Javan Johnson (15.3 PPG) and Eral Penn (13.7 PPG) rank second and third, respectively.

Gibson's seven assists per game rank second in the Big East and ninth nationally while Penn's nine rebounds per game rank third in the conference.
