Baseball To Play At No. 11 Florida State This Weekend

GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT FLORIDA STATE (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on the 11th-ranked Florida State Seminoles in a three-game series this weekend at Dick Howser Stadium.

Samford and Florida State have met 23 previous times, with FSU holding a 21-2 series lead. The last meeting came on June 1, 2018, in the first game of an NCAA Regional in Tallahassee, with Samford earning a 7-6 win over the 7th-ranked Seminoles.

Samford is set to start right-handed pitcher Jacob Cravey (0-0, 6.75 ERA), left-handed pitcher Blake Bortak (0-0, 4.15 ERA) and right-hander Jalon Long (1-0, 0.00 ERA) in the series.

FSU will throw left-handers Parker Messick, Bryce Hubbart and Ross Dunn in the series.

Samford enters the weekend with a mark of 4-0. The Bulldogs swept Arkansas State last weekend to open the season. Samford then earned a dramatic, 6-5 win at Alabama State Tuesday evening.

Florida State is currently 3-1 entering the weekend. The Seminoles opened the season with a three-game sweep of James Madison. FSU then dropped a 3-2 decision at Jacksonville Tuesday night.

Samford second baseman Towns King is currently tied for the national lead in home runs per game. King has hit one home run in each of the team's four games so far this season.

Maurice Hampton, Jr., a transfer from LSU, currently leads Samford in batting with a .538 average (7-of-13) with a triple, a home run and four RBI.

As a team, Samford is tied for sixth in the nation in home runs per game, averaging 2.25 homers per game so far this season.

Florida State has been led at the plate by Reese Albert with a .667 average. Alex Toral has driven in nine runs for FSU.

UP NEXT

Samford will play host to Alabama State on Wednesday, Mar. 2. The game is set for a 4 p.m. start from Joe Lee Griffin Field.
