SAMFORD VS. WOFFORD GAME NOTES (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team (14-8, 8-1 SoCon) will travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on the Wofford Terriers (12-10, 4-5 SoCon) Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. (CT) at Richardson Indoor Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network.
Saturday's match-up is the 29th meeting between Samford and Wofford, in a series that dates back to the 1923-24 season. The Terriers hold a 21-7 series advantage. The teams met earlier this season on Jan. 11 in the Pete Hanna Center, with Samford earning an 83-58 win. Last season, the teams split two meetings with each team winning at home.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 91-84 overtime setback at Furman Wednesday evening, dropping the team's SoCon record to 8-1 and putting the Bulldogs in a tie with UNCG for first place in the SoCon standings. The loss ended Samford's eight-game winning streak, the longest winning streak since the 1998-99 season.
Logan Dye led the Bulldogs with 19 points in Wednesday night's loss. The senior forward became the 30th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark for his career.
A.J. Staton-McCray followed Glover with 16 points while
Ques Glover (15),
Bubba Parham (10) and
Jaden Campbell (10) all scored in double figures as well.
Samford's 8-1 SoCon record marks its best start to SoCon play since joining the conference in 2008. Dye comes into the weekend ranking second in the SoCon in scoring average in conference games at 18.9 points per game. The senior forward ranks third in field goal percentage (56.1%) and second in three-point efficiency (44%) in SoCon games.
Wofford picked up an 85-80 win at Chattanooga their last time out on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Jackson Paveletzke led five Terriers that scored in double figures with a 21-point, six-assist performance. B.J. Mack leads the Terriers in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game. Paveletzke averages 14.5 points per game for Wofford. Messiah Jones leads Wofford in rebounding, grabbing 5.2 boards per game.
