Lucas Steele led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-3 with two home runs and four runs batted in. Joshua Rodriguez also went yard in the contest, launching a two-run home run while scoring twice.

Joseph Salvo registered a pair of hits and runs scored while Parker McDonald picked up an RBI while Jayden Davis and John Anderson both scored a run.

Five Bulldogs combined to toss nine innings on the day, with starting pitcher Jacob Newman conceding just one run over the first two innings to log his first collegiate win.

Trey Sanders tossed a team-high three shutout innings while Turner Thompson struck out four batters over two innings and conceded just one run. Jake Holifield and Ben Petschke added an inning of scoreless relief, with both facing the minimum in their outing.

Steele got the Bulldogs on the board in the first inning after a pair of walks from Davis and Anderson set the stage for his three-run blast. The home run marked his second of the season.

After an Ian Matos RBI double in the top of the second trimmed Samford's lead to 3-1, the Bulldogs promptly responded with a two-run blast by Rodriguez to go up 5-1. A two-out single from Savlo kept the inning alive to set up Rodriguez for his second home run of the 2023 campaign.

The Hornets got one back in the top of the fifth when Trenton Jamison registered an RBI groundout to third, cutting the Bulldog's lead to 5-2. Steele later launched his second home run of the game, a one-out solo shot to left, to put the Bulldogs up 6-2.

Samford added its final two runs of the game in the seventh inning, taking advantage of a Hornet fielding error and an RBI sac but from McDonald.

The Bulldogs came up with the big hit time and time again, knocking five two-out RBI' and posting a batting average of .385 with two outs in the contest.

The Samford pitching staff recorded 12 strikeouts on the afternoon while stranding eight Hornet baserunners. Bulldog pitchers induced eight flyouts and six groundouts.
