SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford freshman
Matthew Smith was named to the Southern Conference's All-Freshman team when the league released its postseason men's golf awards Tuesday morning.
Smith played 24 rounds during the 2022-23 season, posting a stroke average of 74.33, the third lowest average on the team. He tallied four under par rounds during the season.
Smith's highest finish came in the Advance Partners Intercollegiate, where he finished fourth with a three-round score of 213. He also had three other top-20 finishes, placing 19
th in the Golfweek Challenge, Wofford Invitational and Tunica National Intercollegiate.
