GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT THE CITADEL (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford men's basketball team will travel to Charleston, S.C., to take on The Citadel Bulldogs on Saturday, Jan. 6. The game is set for a 12 p.m. (CT) start from McAlister Field House.

Samford and The Citadel have met 29 previous times, with Samford owning a 16-13 series lead. Samford won both meetings last season, winning, 76-63 in Charleston, and, 76-70 in Birmingham.

Samford enters Saturday's game with a mark of 12-2 overall and 1-0 in Southern Conference play. The Bulldogs opened SoCon play with an 89-74 win over Chattanooga Wednesday evening in the Pete Hanna Center. Samford has won its last 12-straight games, the longest win streak since the 1998-99 team won 13-straight games. The school record for longest win streak is 14 by the 1960-61 team.

So far this season, Samford has been led by junior
Achor Achor, averaging 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. Junior
A.J. Staton-McCray is averaging 14.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He led the team with a career-high 29 points in Wednesday night's win over Chattanooga.

Entering this weekend, Samford is ranked in the top 10 in the nation in several categories. Samford ranks in the top 10 in bench points per game (6th-39.21 ppg.), assists per game (3rd-20.6), fastbreak points per game (4th-18.14 pg.), scoring offense (6th-90.1 ppg.), steals per game (8th-10.8 pg.), three-point percentage (5th-40.9%) and turnovers forced per game (9th-17.93 pg.). Samford currently leads the Southern Conference in scoring (90.1 ppg.), scoring margin (+15.2), field goal percentage (.490), three-point field goal percentage (.409), three-pointers made per game (11.1), turnover margin (3.29), assists (20.64 pg.) and steals (10.79 pg.).

The Citadel Bulldogs enter Saturday afternoon's game with a record of 8-6 overall and 0-1 in Southern Conference play. The Citadel opened SoCon play by hosting Western Carolina Wednesday night, falling to the Catamounts by a score of 80-71.

A.J. Smith leads The Citadel in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per game, but he has missed the last two contests for the Bulldogs. Elijah Morgan scores 13.4 points per game for The Citadel so far this season. Madison Durr is averaging 10.6 points per game. Quentin Millora-Brown leads The Citadel in rebounding, grabbing 9.2 boards per contest.
