BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford Athletics Department has formed a historic partnership with Step Sing and announced exciting promotions at upcoming men's and women's basketball games.
 
The Step Sing Banner Drop, when each group competing in Step Sing reveals its banner with that group's theme for this year's competition, was held Sunday evening in the Wrigth Center on campus. The banners are usually displayed in the Samford Cafeteria, but renovations to the facility made that impossible this year, so the Athletics Department offered the Hanna Center as an alternative location. The banners will be on display in the Hanna Center through Jan. 20. The voting for the Fan Favorite banner will take place at Samford's home men's basketball game against UNC Greensboro on Jan. 11.
 
Step Sing, which is one Samford's most popular traditions and is a popular event across the student body and the wider Birmingham community, will take place Jan. 25-27 in the Wright Center.  
 
The partnership also includes a few upcoming men's and women's basketball games. Included in the games are a pair of "Kickoff SoCon Play" nights at the men's basketball game against UNC Greensboro on Jan. 11, and the women's game versus Western Carolina on Jan. 18, where five pairs of custom Samford shoes will be given away at each game.
 
Neon Night will be held at the men's game against VMI on Jan. 13. The first 500 fans at the game will receive a free neon Samford t-shirt. Kids 12 and under will be admitted free to the Jan. 13 game.
