Soccer To Host Mercer Thursday, Play At ETSU Sunday

GAME NOTES--SAMFORD VS. MERCER (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford soccer team will return home to play host to the Mercer Bears Thursday at 6 p.m., and then will play at ETSU Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
 
Samford and Mercer have met 26 previous times, with Samford owning an 18-3-5 series lead. Last season, Samford earned a 2-1 win in Macon, Ga. The last time the two teams played at Shauna Yelton Field was in the semifinals of the 2022 SoCon Tournament, with Samford earning a 1-0 win on its way to the tournament title.
 
Samford and ETSU have played 14 previous times, with the Bulldogs holding an 11-1-2 series lead. Last season, the teams played to a 1-1 tie in the regular season meeting at Shauna Yelton Field, but the Bulldogs earned a 2-0 win at ETSU in the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament.

Samford enters this week with a record of 7-6-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the SoCon. The Bulldogs opened Southern Conference play with a 2-0 loss at defending champion Western Carolina. The Bulldogs then earned a 1-0 win at Chattanooga, a 4-2 win over Wofford, a 1-0 win at The Citadel, and then tied Furman, 1-1, followed by a 5-0 win at VMI.

For Samford so far this season, Layton Glisson and Sam De Luca have tallied four goals and two assists each for a total of 10 points each. In goal for Samford, Peyton Hull has played 920:40, posting a 1.66 goals against average.
 
Mercer enters Thursday night's game with a mark of 9-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in Southern Conference play. The Bears are coming off a 3-3 tie at UNC Greensboro on Sunday.

The Bears have been led so far this season by Larkin Thomason with 13 goals and three assists. Jada Moorman has added six goals and two assists. Lindsay Bell has played all 1,350 minutes in goal for the Bears, posting a 0.93 goals against average.
 
ETSU, coached by Jay Yelton, the brother of Samford head coach Todd Yelton, enters the week with a mark of 3-7-2 overall and 2-3-1 in SoCon play. The Bucs are coming off a 1-0 loss to Furman last Sunday.
 
The Bucs have been led so far this season by Reagan Fitzgerald with two goals and two assists for a total of six points. Ashton Blair has played the season in goal for ETSU, posting a 1.43 goals against average.
