GAME NOTES -- RHODES VS. SAMFORD (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team returns back to the Pete Hanna Center tomorrow night as they host Division III opponents Rhodes College at 6:30 p.m. The Bulldogs are 1-1 on the season and looking to bounce back from a two-point buzzer-beating loss at Cornell last week.

The Samford Bulldogs look to extend their home winning streak to 20 games in a row as they host Rhodes College from Memphis, Tenn.  The meeting will be the 27th all-time between the two programs, but the first since 1961 when Rhodes went by Southwestern (Memphis).

Samford was led by Tulane transfer Collin Holloway who had 21 points last game and leads the team in scoring in the early season with 16 ppg. The Dogs had four players score in double-figures as Rylan Jones, Trey Fort, and Julian Brown all scored over 14 points against the Big Red.

The Bulldogs are 45-5 at the Pete Hanna Center over the past four seasons, since the hiring of Bucky McMillan. The Dogs are top 20 in the nation, currently causing 19.5 turnovers per game through the first two games of the season.

After shooting 40 percent from three last season, the Dogs will look to improve from deep as they are currently just shooting 31 percent through two games as a team so far. Defensively, the Bulldogs have been strong, holding opponents to 37 percent shooting from the field. They held Cornell to 34 percent in the second half of their last game, but the Big Red loved at the line, taking 21 of their 33 free throws in the second 20 minutes of play.

Rhodes enters the game 1-1 after falling to Washington University in St. Louis in their opener and defeating Webster University on Sunday 62-56. The Lynx are replacing their top-scorer from last season and have been led so far by Trevor Lombard who is averaging 14.5 points per game so far this season.

Head coach Steven Goodson is in his fourth season as the head coach of the program and carries a 41-38 career coaching record with the Lynx.
