GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT MERCER (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford men's basketball team will travel to Macon, Ga., to take on the Mercer Bears Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) at Hawkins Arena.
 
Samford and Mercer have met 124 previous times, with Mercer holding a 74-50 series lead. The teams met earlier this season, with Samford earning an 87-80 win in the Pete Hanna Center. Samford has won the last four games in the series.
 
Samford enters Saturday's game with a mark of 23-3 overall and 12-1 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs most recently played host to Western Carolina Wednesday night, picking up an 88-62 Southern Conference win. Samford has won 23 of its last 24 games.
 
Entering Saturday's game, Samford is led by junior Achor Achor, averaging 15.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, leading the team in both categories. Junior A.J. Staton-McCray is averaging 12.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Rylan Jones leads the team in assists, dishing out 5.2 assists per contest. Jermaine Marshall averages 11.1 points per game for Samford.
 
Entering this week, the Bulldogs lead the nation in three-point percentage, making 40.7 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc. Samford also ranks in the top 10 in the nation in scoring offense (4th-88.0), fastbreak points per game (6th-16.23), steals per game (4th-10.9), bench points per game (5th-35.38), assists per game (5th-18.6), turnovers forced per game (5th-17.46) and winning percentage (4th-88.5).
 
Samford currently leads the Southern Conference in scoring (88.0 ppg.), scoring margin (+14.5), field goal percentage (.498), three-point field goal percentage (.407), turnover margin (4.35), assists (18.62 pg.) and steals (10.92 pg.).
 
The Mercer Bears enter Saturday afternoon's game with a record of 11-15 overall and 4-9 in Southern Conference play. The Bears most recently took on Wofford on Wednesday evening, falling at home by a score of 73-60.
 
Mercer has been led so far this season by Jalyn McCreary, averaging 14.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Jake Davis averages 9.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Bears. David Thomas is currently averaging 9.0 points per game. Jah Quinones leads the Bears in assists, dishing out 2.2 assists per game.
