RICHMOND, Ky. – The Samford men's golf team placed second in the Colonel Shootout, hosted by Eastern Kentucky Saturday and Sunday at The University Club at Arlington.
The teams played two rounds of golf on Saturday and one round Sunday. As a team, Samford shot a three-round score of six-under-par 846 (288-278-280) to finish second out of 12 teams. Eastern Kentucky won the event with a final score of 828 (278-270-280).
Graduate student
Garrison Guthrie led Samford, tying for third in the 86-player field with a three-round score of five-under-par 208 (73-65-70).
Gavin Isbell tied for eighth at 211 (70-71-70), while
Matthew Smith also tied for eighth with an identical final score of 211 (71-69-71).
Craig Sanders tied for 27
th at 217 (74-73-70), while
Taylor Kuehn tied for 50
th with a score of 223 (74-79-70). Playing as an individual from Samford,
Brian Boles placed 58
th with a score of 225 (76-76-73).
Samford will next compete in the UAB GMAC Invitational, Sept. 22-24 in Birmingham.
