GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD vs. WOFFORDÂ (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's basketball team returns to the Pete Hanna Center to continue Southern Conference play on Saturday as they host Wofford at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs enter the game with a 16-4 record on the season and are 6-1 in SoCon play while the Terriers are 11-9 and 5-2 in the league.
The Samford Bulldogs are coming off a 73-69 victory at Chattanooga in their last game on Thursday night. The Bulldogs overcame a 16-point deficit in the first half and an 11-point margin at the half to earn the comeback win over the Mocs.Â
The Dogs will look to bounce back from their last home game when they fell to ETSU 65-60. The defeat snapped Samford's 28-game home winning streak which was second longest in the nation. The meeting is the 32nd all-time between the Terriers and the Bulldogs with Wofford holding the series edge 8-23.
Samford sits 97th in the NET rankings, the highest-ranked team in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs are a top-10 three-point shooting team in the nation, making 10.9 threes per game while defensively, they are 5th in the country in caused turnovers forced per game at 16.8. As a team, the Dogs are 15th in the nation in assists averaging 17.6 per game.
Jaden Brownell scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half of the Dog's win over the Mocs and now leads the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game. The Bulldogs have four players averaging double-figures to go along with Brownell in
Trey Fort,
Collin Holloway, and
Rylan Jones.
Wofford enters the game with an 11-9 record on the season and is 5-2 in SoCon play. The Terriers have won their last two league games, including a 79-68 win over The Citadel in their last game. Head coach Dwight Perry is in his third season with Wofford who was picked to finish fourth in the Preseason SoCon poll. The Terriers had Kyler Filewich and Corey Tripp named to the Preseason All-Conference team while Tripp leads the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game.
