MILL SPRING, N.C. - The Samford men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Southern Conference Championship meet this morning. Each Bulldog team finished fifth during the meet in the ten-team field.
The first race of the day was the women's 5k; once again,
Felicity Hamilton led the way for Samford as she finished in sixth place. She finished with a time of 17:34.3, just 30 seconds behind the race winner. After being named Freshman of the Year last season, Hamilton was named First Team All-Conference for her sixth-place finish. Freshman
Gaby Boutros was the next Samford runner across the line as she came in 24th and was followed by teammate
Isabella Edwards 16 seconds later in 31st place. The final two scoring spots were taken by
Abi Cobb and
Jess Edwards, who crossed the line in 36th and 38th respectively. The time for the freshman Cobb was her best 5k time of the season, 19:09.1.
Bela Doss,
Kaiya Budwick, and
Sophia Boutros finished 42nd, 45th, and 55th in a field of 76 total runners.Â
In the second race, the men's team ran an 8k race and was led by the pair of
David Brown and
William Jordan. The Bulldog pair finished in 13th and 14th and ran times of 25:25.9 and 25:32.5 respectively. The finish for each put them on the SoCon Second Team All-Conference.Â
Stephen Jones was the next Samford runner across the line in 26th place, followed by
Andrew McGinnis in 30th. Freshman
Loden Kohrman finished with a season-best time of 26:34, coming in 37th in the final point scoring position.
Reese Bell came in 41st, followed by
William Murray in 61st, in the field of 76 runners.Â
The Bulldogs will continue their season at the NCAA South Regional held in Huntsville, Ala. on Nov. 14.
