GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Samford men's golf team sits in seventh place after the first round of the Southern Conference Championship held Sunday at Reynolds Lake Oconee (Par 72, 7,393 yards).
 
Samford shot a one-over-par 289 to place seventh after the first round. UNC Greensboro leads the event with a first-round total of 277.
 
Samford's playing five was led by Garrison Guthrie with a one-under-par 71 to tie for 13^th in the 40-player field. Gavin Isbell and Tiaan Hugo are both tied for 17^th with identical first-round scores of 72. Damin Strydom and Matthew Smith are both tied for 30^th at 74.
