Four Bulldog Golfers Named NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. - The Samford men's golf team had four players named as NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars today when the GCAA announced the awards. 

Tiaan Hugo, Jack Mikesell, Campbell Sciortino, and Matthew Smith earned the recognition. Samford was one of 81 Division I schools to have at least four recipients. To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

Hugo was 42nd in the Southern Conference in scoring average and fifth on the squad, with an average of 74.70 over the 30 rounds he played last season. The South Africa native had a low round of 70 twice during the season and had a season-best finish of 15th at the Bryan National Collegiate.

Mikesell was second on the team with a season scoring average of 73.41 last season. The Florida native had a season-low round of 68 and a second-place finish at the Carolina Cup.

Sciortino played in 20 rounds for the Bulldogs last season, with a low round of 68 and a season average of 74. He finished inside the top-25 twice in the six tournaments he played in, with a best of 14th place at the Wexford Intercollegiate.

Oklahoma native Smith played in seven tournaments last season for the Bulldogs. He shot a season-best 67 and had a season average of 74.80. His best finish came at the Turtle Point Invitational, where he finished 28th.
