Tennis Splits Matches Against Tennessee-Martin

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Samford University men's and women's tennis teams split their matches against Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee-Martin. The Bulldog men won 6-1, while the women fell to the Skyhawks,4-3.
The Samford men (6-3, 3-0 OVC) won 6-1 over Tennessee-Martin (1-4, 0-1 OVC). The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick start, gaining the doubles point before claiming five of the six singles points.
In doubles play, Bradley Weaver and Renan Silveira won, 8-2, on the No. 1 court over Daniel McGuire and Stephen Bruwer. On the No. 2 court, Stuart Misner and Hank Grant captured an 8-5 win over Adolfo Anzola and Oltion Mollaymeri and James Bryce and Johnny Griffee won, 8-4, over Andrev Yesipov and William Taylor on the No. 3 court.
In singles play, Grant captured the no. 2 point, winning, 6-1, 6-4 over Bruwer and Misner won, 6-1, 6-2, on the No. 3 court over McGuire. Silveira clinched the win for the Bulldogs on the No. 1 court, defeating Anzola, 6-4, 6-0. Weaver won, 6-2, 6-3, over Yesipov on the No. 4 court and Griffee captured the No. 5 point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Mollaymeri.
The Samford women (5-3, 2-1 OVC) fell 4-3 to Tennessee-Martin (3-1, 1-0 OVC). The Bulldogs lost the doubles point and split the singles points with the Skyhawks, 3-3.
In singles play, Katie McMiller defeated Sara Leavy, 6-3, 6-2, on the No. 2 court. Emily White captured the No. 3 point, winning, 6-3, 6-4, over Jeanne De Wet. Sarah McKey won a thrilling 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 match over Ernestine Koornhoff on the No. 5 court.
The Bulldogs return to action on March 15, when they host OVC rival Jacksonville State at the Lakeshore Foundation.
