TOURNAMENT BRACKET
SPARTANBURG, S.C.— The Samford baseball team has earned the No. 8 seed for the 2013 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament, and the Bulldogs will take on top-seeded Western Carolina in the opening round Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. (CT) at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. The full pairings for the tournament were released by the conference on Saturday.
Wednesday's opening round will begin at 9 a.m. (CT) with fourth-seeded The Citadel taking on fifth-seeded Appalachian State. Following the Samford-Western Carolina matchup, third-seeded Elon will take on sixth-seeded Furman at 4 p.m. (CT). The opening day of the tournament will conclude with second-seeded College of Charleston taking on seventh-seeded Georgia Southern at 7:30 p.m. (CT).
The 2013 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament will conclude with the championship game on Sunday, May 26, at 1 p.m. (CT). The title game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Samford will be looking to defend its 2012 SoCon Tournament title. Last season, the Bulldogs defeated Georgia Southern in the championship game, 9-6 in 10 innings to earn the program's first SoCon Tournament title and first NCAA Tournament bid. Samford and Georgia Southern have met in the last two SoCon Tournament championship games, with GSU winning the 2011 showdown, 1-0.
Samford wrapped up its regular season on Friday, finishing the year with a record of 27-28 overall and 12-17 in SoCon play.
