Women's Basketball Releases 2013-14 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A tournament at Colorado and games at Utah, Oklahoma and cross-town rival UAB, highlight the Samford women's basketball team's 2013-14 schedule, released by head coach Mike Morris on Tuesday.

"This is the first year we haven't had our Thanksgiving Tournament, so I am really excited about going out to Colorado," Morris said. "They put on a very good Thanksgiving Tournament, so we are looking forward to going out to that area. Playing Utah and a program like Oklahoma, who's usually in the top 15 or 20, with a great crowd is going to be a great experience for our team."

The Bulldogs open the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 10, with a game at Memphis. The team's home opener comes on Nov. 14, when the Bulldogs play host to Talladega College at 6 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford will then play its next five games away from home. After a game at North Florida on Nov. 18, the Bulldogs will play at UAB on Nov. 24. The game at UAB will mark just the second time the two programs have met and the first time since 2001.

"Coach (Randy) Norton from UAB and I have gotten together and we are going to play each other every year," Morris said. "We're going to start at their place this year, and they'll come to the Hanna Center next year. I think it is great for the city of Birmingham in terms of women's basketball, and hopefully we can generate more interest in women's basketball in the city with Samford and UAB playing each year."

The Bulldogs will then travel to Boulder, Colo., to take part in the Omni Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by the University of Colorado, Nov. 29-30. Samford will play Rice on Nov. 29, and then either Colorado or South Alabama on Nov. 30.

"Overall, our non-conference schedule is probably one of our toughest, playing at Memphis and UAB, along with Oklahoma, Utah and the tournament at Colorado," Morris said. "All of that is designed to prepare us for our conference schedule, which is always tough. It is going to be a very good league again this year."

The team will wrap up its five-game road swing with a game at Alabama Sate on Dec. 4. Samford will then play host to future Southern Conference foe Mercer on Dec. 7.

Samford will open SoCon play with games at Elon (Dec. 14) and UNCG (Dec. 16). Next up will be the program's first ever games at Utah on Dec. 21 and Oklahoma on Dec. 29. The Bulldogs will wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule by playing host to in-state rival Jacksonville State on Jan. 1.

The Bulldogs return to SoCon play by playing host to Davidson (Jan. 4) and Georgia Southern (Jan. 6). Next up are road conference games at Appalachian State (Jan. 11) and Western Carolina (Jan. 13).

Samford will then play host to Furman on Jan. 18 and Wofford on Jan. 20. Next up for the Bulldogs are three-straight road games, playing at Chattanooga (Jan. 25), Georgia Southern (Feb. 1) and Davidson (Feb. 3).

Samford will return home on Feb. 8 to play host to Western Carolina. The Bulldogs will then take on Appalachian State on Feb. 10 in the Pete Hanna Center. Samford's final two road games will be played at Wofford on Feb. 15 and Furman on Feb. 17.

The Bulldogs will wrap up their regular season with three-straight games in the Pete Hanna Center. Samford will play host to Chattanooga (Feb. 24), UNCG (Feb. 28) and Elon (Mar. 2).

The Southern Conference Tournament will once again be held in Asheville, N.C. The tournament is scheduled for Mar. 7-10.
