SPRING PROSPECTUS (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford football team will open spring practice Monday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.
The Bulldogs will go through a workout in shorts and helmets Monday at 4:01 p.m. The spring will conclude with a workout on Friday, April 19 at 6:01 a.m. All practices are open to the public and media.
Samford returns seven starters on offense and six starters on defense from the 2018 squad. The returning starters on offense are
Jai'Rus Creamer (WR),
Yassar El-Amin (WR),
George Grimwade (OL),
Brendan Loftus (OL),
Nick Nixon (OL),
Chris Shelling (WR) and
Mike Williams (OL). Defensive returning starters are
Nick Barton (FS),
William Bryant (CB),
Joshua Carter (CB),
Tre'Shun Floyd (LB),
Justin Foster (DL), and
Jalen Nash (DL).
Samford enters the season having to replace three All-Americans. Quarterback
Devlin Hodges, the 2018 Walter Payton Award, wide receiver
Kelvin McKnight and defensive lineman
Ahmad Gooden all earned All-America honors last year and will have to be replaced this season.
The 2019 season will be the fifth at Samford for head coach
Chris Hatcher and his staff. Hatcher is 27-19 in four seasons at Samford. His 2018 squad finished 6-5 overall and 5-3 in Southern Conference play, marking the program's eighth-straight winning season. Hatcher has led the program to the NCAA Division I-FCS Playoffs in two of his four seasons.
