BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team opened its four-game weekend series with Northern Kentucky with a 5-4 win over the Norse Friday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northern Kentucky scored two runs, just one earned, aided by a pair of Samford errors in the top of the first inning.
- Samford came back with three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-RBI single by Kaden Dreier, and Dreier later scoring on a wild pitch for a 3-2 Samford lead.
- The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 4-2 in the third inning when Max Pinto scored on a sacrifice fly by Sonny DiChiara.
- NKU scored a run in the sixth inning on a home run by Sam Hedges, and then tied the score at 4-4 with a run in the top of the seventh inning.
- Samford plated the eventual game-winning run when Carson Allison scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Crockett in the bottom of the eighth inning.
ON THE MOUND
- Carson Cupo (1-0) pitched the final 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
- Tyler Keith (0-2) tossed 1.0 inning, giving up one run on two hits to take the loss for Northern Kentucky.
NOTABLES
- Dreier went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Pinto and Ayrton Schafer added two hits each for Samford.
- For NKU, Treyvin Moss and Jake Murray collected three hits each.
- Hedges hit the lone home run of the game.
