OXFORD, Ala. - The Samford men's and women's cross country teams opened it's season tonight at the Foothills Invitational, hosted by Jacksonville State. The Bulldog men's side finished in third in the 20-team field while the women's side came in fourth out of 21 teams.

The Samford men's team took a podium finish behind Jacksonville State and Auburn. The Dogs were led by a trio of runners in Arthur Langley, William Jordan, and David Brown, who finished 14th, 15th, and 16th. The group came across the line together, all with a time of 15:32. The marks were personal records for Jordan and Brown. Stephen Jones finished in 28th for Samford, while freshman Loden Kohrman came in 32nd. Andrew McGinnis was the final Bulldog runner across the line in 47th in the 175-man field.

The women's side was led by reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year Felicity Hamilton, who came in eighth place with a time of 17:59. Gaby Boutros and Bela Doss ran strong races, coming in 15th and 16th respectively. Jess Edwards finished in 23rd, followed by Sophia Boutros in 26th, while Abi Cobb and Isabella Edwards came in 33rd and 44th in a field of 178 runners. The young Bulldogs side marked the first collegiate cross country event for both Boutros sisters, Cobb, and Jess Edwards. 

After running their first meet of the season, the Bulldogs have a nice break, returning to action on Sept. 26. They will head to Tallahassee to compete in the Seminole Invite.
